Terriers are known to be energetic, fearless, and independent. They seem to be on high alert at all times and can be reactive to even the slightest disturbance. Terriers are also known to be diggers and escape artists with a penchant for exploring their surroundings and occasionally resulting in a run-away dog. Terriers do not hesitate to stand up to larger dogs, and that can cause owners a great deal of anxiety when their four-legged family members get out.

This week, DogWatch Dealers Kathy and David Downey of DogWatch by Laughing Labrador donated 12 SideWalker® Leash Trainers to a unique public school therapy dog program in Brighton, Michigan to help improve the dogs’ leash walking behavior. In the clip from DogWatch of Montana, a young black Labrador Retriever named Boone spots a herd a deer in his backyard. He is clearly interested in these wild animals, but thanks to his DogWatch Hidden Fence, he stays within his boundaries and does not chase them.

Hidden fencing (a.k.a. electric dog fencing, invisible fencing, or underground fencing) has been in existence for a long time but has recently become more popular due to the ever increasing fence restrictions and our ability to trust more in technological advancements. There are some people, however, that are still leery due mostly to myths associated with this type of pet containment. We would like to address these myths and help educate the general public about the safety, humanity and convenience of hidden fences.
The six most popular myths associated with hidden fences are 1) the shock is dangerous and inhumane; 2) it doesn’t work on my breed; 3) my dog will never want to come outside again; 4) it will make my dog become aggressive; 5) it is too expensive and 6) store-bought systems work just as well as professionally-installed hidden fences.
