Pit Bulls are known to be loving, patient, brave, and loyal companions. Pit Bulls are not one specific breed, but a mix of several breeds, such as Staffordshire Bull Terrier, American Pit Bull Terrier, American Bulldog, and American Staffordshire Terrier. These gentle giants are not generally aggressive and only rank behind Golden Retrievers in tests of tolerance.

Pit Bulls are high energy, strong, and have tremendous stamina, meaning they require a good deal of exercise. They’re also known to be quite mischievous if they get bored. Many first-time or even long-time Pit Bull owners may assume that a hidden fence can’t work for their dog, believing they’ll go right through the boundary without even a blink. However, this is not the case!

Here are some DogWatch® Hidden Fence Pit Bull success stories!

Busy Roads

Lexi, a Pit Bull from DogWatch of Upstate New York, lives on a stretch of highway that is particularly busy, State Highway 8. She also has a brother, Jasper the Cocker Spaniel. These two love to chase each other around in their yard, but their family was naturally concerned about them leaving the property and finding their way onto the busy highway. They decided to go with a DogWatch Hidden Fence, and both dogs passed training with flying colors. Since May 2020, they’ve stayed safely in their yard with no issues and no re-training required.

Lost And Found

Ash, a grey and white Pit Bull, is the firehouse dog of Hanahan Fire Station #1 in Hanahan, South Carolina. In May 2020, he decided to walk out an open garage door and quickly got lost outside his home. The Hanahan firefighters acted quickly, posting on social media, calling shelters, and spreading their message on a local news station.

DogWatch of Greater Charleston owner, Matthew Cormack, saw the story, shared Ash’s photo everywhere he could, and offered to donate a hidden fence upon Ash’s return. Ash, thankfully was returned home ten days later. Matthew installed a fence for Ash, and after just a few days of training, he was a pro. “Ash is a smart dog,” says Matt. “He’s super friendly and quite mellow for a young dog. He fits right in at the station with the guys.” Ash has been safe and sound at Hanahan Fire Station #1 since!

Overdrive

Many Pit Bull owners worry about the effectiveness of an underground hidden fence due to the high drive many Pit Bulls have. Drive means a dog’s natural desire and or commitment to achieve something. This could be chasing a squirrel, fetching a ball, or wanting to say hi to a neighbor passing by. It could also mean just getting out excess energy by way of zoomies!

Jude from DogWatch of Southeastern Ontario is an example of high drive Pit Bull. She’s a young Pit/Boxer mix and has mountains of energy to burn off. Her owners have had a DogWatch Hidden Fence for four years now, and have never had a problem. Even when she gets her crazy zoomies!

There’s No Place Like Home

Asher the Pit Mix, Rory the Wheaten Terrier, and Cruzan the Bull Terrier Mix all live in homes that share parts of a large front yard. The three are such fantastic friends that their owners decided to get a DogWatch Hidden Fence that encloses all three yards together. This way, the pups can be let out play together any time they want. Even with all three high drive dogs getting each other excited and running as fast as they can on the property, they know to stay within their boundaries.

On training day with DogWatch of Upstate New York, they had an especially tough challenge to overcome. A dog walked by with its owner just minutes into their session. The three friendly dogs simply watched the pup and his owner walk by without attempting to run off their property to say hello!

Conclusion

Pit Bulls are an often-misunderstood breed. They are gentle giants who are loving and loyal to their humans and can make great family pets. They are also intelligent, easy to train, and eager to please their people! Over the thirty years DogWatch has been in business, our Dealers have time and time again had tremendous success training Pit Bulls and keeping them safe at home.
